I remember reading The Boxcar kids books my mom had from her childhood. Of course I remember early readers Dick and Jane - all of which probably had some problematic tropes and storylines, for sure. My mom read to us often, and was a voracious reader herself. We read Dr Seuss to our kids - more from my husband's childhood than mine. My kids were already readers when Harry Potrer arrived, but I read it along with them which resulted in many shared memories.
